London VCS Premises Research Study By Environment Trust Associates Commissioned by the Development Trusts Association on behalf of the London Capacity Builders Premises Sub-Group, funded by This research attempted to analyse the asset management plans of all local authorities across London in December 2007. Based on the evidence collected for the study, the research report sets out some recommendations for central and local government departments to take forward. Recommendations include increased provision, signposting and promotion of free advice and support for the VCS/third sector on all premises issues; nominated local authority contacts to deal with premises issues for the third sector in each authority; improved information sharing between local authorities and CVSs on premises availability locally; and the provision of guidance for local authorities on asset management processes in relation to the third sector. This study was conducted in order that the London Change Up Premises Sub Group could make recommendations to major funding organisations, local and central government and the wider third sector in London about how best to develop capacity and increase support to third sector organisations around asset-based development and premises management – including within the wider context of opportunities for income generation from premises for some third sector organisations.
