Lyme Regis Development Trust

Lyme Regis is a small town with a big name. Located in the centre of the Jurassic Coast, England’s only natural World Heritage Site, the Town is famous for its geology, fossils and unparalleled role in the birth of the earth sciences. Building on this legacy, from 2012 Lyme Regis will become the venue for a Jurassic Coast Studies Centre which will team leading scientists from the Natural History Museum with the experience of the Field Studies Council and Lyme Regis Development Trust.

Leading up to the Centre’s launch the partners are working together to offer a new range of natural science courses during February and March 2010 and 2011. Based in Victoria House you will have access to spacious and comfortable facilities in the heart of Lyme Regis, and only a short walk from the beach and historic harbour Cobb.

Student places will be limited on this innovative Natural History Museum course programme...to book a place and for more information click here

Pewsey Area Community Trust

The Trust is working in partnership with the Barge Inn Community Project which hopes to purchase the lease of the pub and operate it as a profitable social enterprise. The village has already seen a number of its amenities close down, including the shop and post office.

The project would rejuvenate the village by creating a community hub. It would also help support tourism in Honeystreet, which is well known because of the local crop circle phenomena and popular canal system. Complementary enterprises such as a village shop and craft and drama workshops would also operate within the pub. Employment opportunities would be created, as well as training for people with learning disabilities.

The project is a step closer to finding out if they will secure up to £200,000 of Lottery money to set up a new community reviving enterprise and star in a major prime time BBC1 series, after making the shortlist for the Big Lottery Fund’s Village SOS scheme. Village SOS – an initiative by Big Lottery Fund and the BBC to inspire UK rural revival – aims to fund six rural villages to develop new business ventures that will breathe new life into their areas, create new jobs and improve the quality of life for local people.
