Communities England

New agency bringing together the functions of English Partnerships, the Housing Corporation, and a range of work currently delivered by DCLG

Earlier this year, the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) announced proposals for the creation of a new agency, Communities England.

Communities England will bring together the functions of English Partnerships, the Housing Corporation, and a range of work currently delivered by the DCLG, including the areas of decent homes, housing market renewal, housing Private Finance Initiative (PFI), housing growth and urban regeneration.

Communities England is expected to have more than £4bn of public funds at its disposal, the agency will not be fully operational before 2009.

Community Alliance, the community sector partnership of Bassac, Community Matters, Development Trusts Association and Scarman Trust, is seeking a meeting with Communities England to explore the implications of this merger for community anchor organisations.
