Poverty in the UK: the role of development trusts what do we mean by poverty? what does it have to do with development trusts? In this section we have collated some articles and reports that explore different intepretations of poverty and the role development trusts can play in tackling its effects at the local level.

Case studies: examples of local action Here are some examples of what community organisations are doing to tackle disadvantage and exclusion in their areas. Our focus has been to identify examples where community-based organisations have developed an enterprise that addresses a market inequality or provides a local solution to problems of unemployment, poor health, or lack of opportunities.

Map of deprived areas and development trusts Based on the Indices of Multiple Deprivation for England, Scotland and Wales, we have created this map which illustrates the unique position in which development trusts are with regards to tackling poverty. Development trusts are based in some of the most deprived neighbourhoods in the UK and have a real potential to bring wealth and opportunities for local people.
