Community Assets

Through a number of campaigns and initiatives the DTA is encouraging community organisations throughout the country to develop an asset base, so they can become sustainable agencies for community renewal. This includes our contribution to the Quirk review and debates on the Community Asset Fund, as well as case studies from development trusts that have acquired an asset base.

The Community Assets Programme Through this programme the DTA will provide support to third sector organisations and local authorities involved in the transfer of assets into community ownership

Quirk Review Quirk review findings on community asset management and ownership were launched on 15 May at the Burton Street Project, a Sheffield based development trust and member of the Development Trusts Association (DTA). The report states: ‘there are no substantive impediments to the transfer of public assets to communities. It can be done, indeed it has been done legitimately and successfully in very many places.’
