A History of Asset Ownership

Over the last few years community asset ownership of lad and buildings has become, alongside social enterprise, a hot topic across the political spectrum.

However this is not a new idea. For hundreds of years the idea of community owned assets has existed through our social history.

over the summer of 2007, Steve Wyler, Director of the Development Trusts Association spent some time researching the exciting history of the community enterprise movement. Some of his findings on how the notion of community owned assets came about are featured in this concise History of community asset ownership.
