We have developed a DTA press kit which is aimed at those development trusts that, to date, have struggled to utilise the media to their advantage. It is of particular use to organisations with limited time and resources or those already in the midst of developing a media strategy.
- Denham announces new Meanwhile Licence for Land 03 March 2010: During a visit to the Kings Cross Skip Garden in London earlier today, Communities
Secretary John Denham announced that a new Meanwhile Licence for Land is being
developed by the Meanwhile Project. The new Licence will help provide access to
land on a temporary basis for community groups and can be used for a range of
purposes, including local food growing schemes, parks and gardens and other green
spaces.
- Government recognises power of community enterprise to transform communities 11th February 2010: Leading national community enterprise network, the Development Trusts Association (DTA), has welcomed the launch of the new Community Enterprise Strategic Framework from the Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG), which recognises the power and potential of community enterprises as a means to drive forward positive change in communities across the country.
- Local Authorities urged to consider community-run swimming pools Thursday 10th December 2009: At a time when many swimming pools are under increasing pressure to remain viable, the Asset Transfer Unit, the provider of expert advice on the transfer of underused land and buildings, and the Amateur Swimming Association, the national governing body for Swimming, are urging local authorities to look at community ownership and management as an alternative to closing facilities.
- DTA welcomes Government support to consolidate Meanwhile Project Wednesday 9th December 2009: Communities Secretary, John Denham has confirmed a further half a million pounds for the Meanwhile Project, led by the Development Trusts Association (DTA).
- Cameron adopts DTA’s ‘Community Right to Buy’ proposals 24 November 2009: In a party political broadcast last week David Cameron, Conservative party leader, promised to introduce a “community right to buy” to help community organisations take over and run assets in their community - saying communities should have “the first right of refusal” to acquire buildings from the public and private sector to be run for the community on a not for profit basis.
- Community Alliance concern at Government decision to pull campaign fund 16th November 2009: The Community Alliance (bassac, Community Matters and the Development Trusts Association) has reacted with surprise and concern at the unexpected decision of the Third Sector Minister, Angela Smith, to withdraw grants awarded to community groups, as part of the Campaigning Research Programme.
- Asset Transfer Unit estimates 1,000 local authority asset transfers to communities are currently underway 10 November 2009: Two and a half years on from the Quirk Review the fourth round of the Advancing Assets programme is launched and ATU estimates 1,000 local authority asset transfers to communities currently underway
- Community Shares Round Two Announced: promoting enterprise, equity and engagement through community shares and bonds 5th November 2009: The Minister for the Third Sector announced that a further five community-owned social enterprises have been selected to take part in a Government-funded research project looking at new ways for social enterprises to attract finance.

- ‘Fire sale’ of government assets may ‘undermine community resilience’ warns Development Trusts Association Monday 12th October 2009 - The Development Trusts Association (DTA) today called on Prime Minister Gordon Brown to ensure that plans to sell off £16bn of national and local government assets will include consideration of the vital role that communities and the wider third sector can play in the ownership and management of public assets for ongoing community benefit.
- Hazel Blears Launches the Asset Transfer Unit, April 2009 The Asset Transfer Unit, which is led and managed by the DTA in association with Community Matters and the Local Government Association, was launched by Hazel Blears on 27th April at Stockwell Community Centre in London.
- Community Shares: promoting enterprise, equity and engagement through community shares and bonds Tuesday 3 February 2009: New action learning research programme on community shares and bonds to be launched at Voice'09. The programme is delivered by DTA in conjunction with Co-Operatives UK and the Social Return on Investment network.
- DTA elects Micheal Pyner of Shoreditch Trust as new chair The board of the Development Trusts Association (DTA) last week elected Micheal Pyner CEO of the Shoreditch Trust to chair the Association. Micheal takes over from Dave Clarson, Co-ordinator of Burton Street Project in Sheffield, who steps down after four years as chair.
- Blears announces DTA to administer Asset Transfer Unit 19 September 2008 - Hazel Blears announced on Tuesday 16 Seotember at the DTA national conference that the new Asset Transfer Unit will be managed by the DTA with the close involvement of key stakeholders the Local Government Association and Community Matters.
